📄 The San Leandro Marina: A return to the mudflats

History

1959 was an exciting year. Alaska and Hawaii were incorporated into the US, Fidel Castro was announced as the Premier of Cuba, and the San Leandro marina was opened. At its start, the marina had a capacity of 139 berths for small boats. Even at this point, the Army Corps of Engineers had dredged a channel all 2 miles out into the deep of the bay. The marina proved popular, and gained traction with the local community. So much so, that the marina was expanded to

Bathymetry

The final bathymetric survey conducted for the San Leandro Marina was on March 27, 2018. This survey already indicated that the channel out to the bay and the siltation of the marina itself was already severe, with many areas reaching 0ft at Mean Lowest Low Tide (MLLT).
